Denise Bidot's motto? "There is no wrong way to be a woman." We couldn't agree more. Get to know this modern day superhero (and Muse NYC model!) in our exclusive interview.
Who is your denim icon?
My denim icon is definitely Cindy Crawford. The early 90s were so effortless and cool.
Describe your perfect denim outfit.
My perfect denim outfit would be a pair of skinny high waisted jeans with a black bodysuit and leather jacket. With either a sick pair of heels or some bad ass boots.
What songs can you currently not stop listening to?
I'm a sucker for anything Christina Aguilera. I still love her "Stripped" album to this day. Every song on that album is so powerful, it gives me a confidence boost every time I listen to it. It's just one of those timeless albums.
You live by the mantra “There is no wrong way to be a woman” and it’s a brand you’ve started as well: tell us how you came up with the idea and what it represents.
I wanted all women to know there is no wrong way to be you. Everyone is perfect in their own way and it's about time we start encouraging and embracing individuality.
You recently walked at NYFW for Chromat – tell us about that experience!
It was amazing. I was honored to be included and to walk for a brand that is in every sense the future of fashion. To be walking for my 6th season beside such a diverse group of people in their show means that change is finally here. Im a proud #chromatbabe.
So far, what has been the highlight of your career?
I think walking in front of Anna Wintour for Serena Williams' collection was a definite career highlight. Recently I had the honor of being featured in Sports Illustrated, for Lane Bryant, completely un-retouched. It was groundbreaking because it's not what we are used to seeing in the pages of SI. I'm very happy with the work I've had the privilege of doing. It really helps reprogram the way people think of beauty. We are all beautiful even with our "imperfections".
What traits do you look for in members of your Good Squad?
My Good Squad is full of confident, strong, and loyal women. If you are part of my #goodsquad, you have to root for your fellow sisters. When we all unite and help each other, we can do the impossible.
As a model, you’ve been all around the world. What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled & why?
My favorite place I've been to was Norway. Seeing the northern lights was always on my bucket list. To this day it is one of the most surreal moments, and being able to experience that sort of natural beauty with my daughter by my side was a dream come true. Definitely one for the books.
You’re a model, a mom, an activist—you are kind of a super woman. What are some of your “tricks” on how to do it all?
Lots of coffee! I always try to plan my day out the night before and write down all the things I need to get accomplished. It helps me stay on track and make sure I'm not forgetting anything. Being organized helps keep my crazy life some what in order.
Describe your perfect day off…
My perfect day off would be a day relaxing with my daughter on the beach laying in a hammock.
Your hair is always perfectly effortless and textured – what products do you swear by?
I think a good haircut goes a long way, but I do swear by two specific products. First one is Redkin Powder Grip. I put some all around my head and use my fingers to texturize and break it up, creating that perfectly "undone" effect.
I also use Olaplex hair treatments once a week to keep the integrity of my hair nice and healthy. I recommend it to anyone who uses heating products or colors their hair.
What does a ‘good American girl’ mean to you?
Someone who is resilient yet kind and ready to help others as well as get the job done herself.
